There are plenty of courses at UJ that South African students can apply for without even high grades in mathematics and mathematics literacy. Most of these courses are found in the humanities and education fields of studies.

Faculty of Education

List of the courses that don’t require mathematics in under the Faculty of Education at UJ:

  • BEd Degree in Senior Phase and Further Education and Training (Grade 8-12) – LANGUAGE EDUCATION
  • BEd Degree in Senior Phase and Further Education and Training (Grade 8-12) – LIFE ORIENTATION

What is required:

  • A valid National Senior Certificate (NSC) with admission for degree purposes.
  • Minimum APS of 26, excluding Life Orientation.
  • A Bachelor’s degree endorsement (the minimum entry requirements to study towards a degree) does not guarantee admission to the BEd.
  • Preliminary admission is based on the results obtained in the final Grade 11 examination. Final admission is based on the final Grade 12 results.

Faculty of Humanities

List of the courses that don’t require mathematics in under the Faculty of Humanities at UJ:

  • Bachelor of Social Work (4 years)
  • Bachelor of Arts (3 years)
  • BA with specialisation in LANGUAGE PRACTICE
  • BA with specialisation in POLITICS, ECONOMICS AND TECHNOLOGY
  • BA with specialisation in DEVELOPMENT STUDIES
  • BA with specialisation in LINGUISTICS
  • BA with specialisation in STRATEGIC COMMUNICATION
