On this page you will find the Western Cape Education Department’s Early Identification Screening Tool for Grade R and Grade 1 learners. It is designed for use by teachers, practitioners, and Learning Support Teachers to spot learners who need extra support. The tool checks five areas: general development, emotional/social development, gross motor skills, fine motor skills, and cognitive ability. It includes scoring sections and a summary results table per school and grade. This screening tool helps teachers identify Grade R learners early so they can get the right support for a strong start to school.
