APS Score Points and Requirements at Stellenbosch University

Courses that require 20 – 25 APS Score Points or less at Stellenbosch University: Stellenbosch University has a number of low APS Score from as low as 18 to 25. Courses that require very low aps score are Certificates., while Diploma courses require average APS scores. Degree courses usually require standard to high APS scores.

  • Low APS scores are: 14, 15, 16, 17,18, 19, and 20
  • Average APS score are: 20, 21, 22, 23, 24, and 25
  • High APS score: 25, 26, 27, 28, 29, 30 – 45

What are the minimum academic requirements for a bachelor’s degree?

  • 30% for a South African Language of Learning and Teaching (English or Afrikaans), and
  • an achievement rating of 4 (50% – 59%) in four 20-credit subjects.

How do you calculate your National Senior Certificate average?

Highest score in Language of Learning and Teaching (Eng or Afr) + (5 x best results in 20-credit subjects excluding Life Orientation, Advanced Mathematics, Mathematics 3 and any other non NSC subject​s). The total is then divided by 6.

How do we assess international qualifications?

The University receives more applications than there are places for. Therefore, even though you may
meet the minimum admission requirements of a programme, you are not guaranteed admission to the programme of your choice. Basic admission requirements for university study

  • A National Senior Certificate (NSC) or Independent Examinations Board (IEB) school-leaving certificate as certified by Umalusi for admission to bachelor’s degree studies
  • Writing of the National Benchmark Tests (NBTs) required by your chosen programme
    Please note: When you apply for a programme in the faculties of Law and of Medicine and Health Sciences, the NBTs need to be written by 30 June if you want to be considered for selection.
