Sesotho HL Grade 12 Exam Guidelines Scope 2025 – What to Expect

The Sesotho Home Language exam consists of three papers. Each paper has a different focus: Paper 1 develops comprehension and language knowledge, Paper 2 examines prescribed literature, and Paper 3 assesses writing ability.


Paper 1 – Puo le Tsebo ya Mantswe (Language in Context)

Date: Monday, 27 October 2025
Duration: 2 hours

Structure of Paper 1:

  • Section B: Summary (10 marks) – Writing a summary of ±90 words.

Paper 3 – Mongolo (Writing)

Date: Thursday, 6 November 2025
Duration: 2½ hours
Marks: 100

Structure of Paper 3:

  • Section A: Essay (50 marks) – Creative, reflective, or discursive essays.
  • Section B: Longer Transactional Writing (30 marks) – Formal letters, speeches, articles, or reports.
  • Section C: Shorter Transactional Writing (20 marks) – Texts such as emails, notices, dialogues, or diary entries.
