Closing dates you must meet
Wits uses strict cut-offs. Apply and pay before these dates or your application will not be considered.
- 30 June 2025: Faculty of Health Sciences all programmes, Bachelor of Architectural Studies, Bachelor of Audiology, Bachelor of Speech-Language Pathology, BA Film and TV.
- 30 September 2025: All other undergraduate programmes.
- 30 September 2025: Residence applications.
Some programmes listed above are already closed for 2026 applications. Always check the current status before you start.
Step 1. Apply online
Start your WITS Online Application 2026 well before the closing date. Keep your options broad and complete the form in your own name as it appears on your ID or passport.
- Apply online at the Wits applications page.
- You may apply for a maximum of three programmes. The order of choice does not matter.
- Make sure you meet the admission requirements for each programme.
- If you select two programmes in one faculty, also add a programme in a less restricted faculty such as Humanities, Commerce or Science.
- Keep your options open for highly selective faculties such as Health Sciences or Engineering.
- You are applying for first year. Do not enter the programme duration.
- In line with the POPI Act, complete your own application and accept the legal declaration of indemnity and undertaking. Wits does not engage with third-party agents who apply on behalf of applicants.

Step 2. Pay the application fee and upload supporting documents
Payment must clear before the closing date. Upload documents in the correct fields as clear, legible scans.

- R100 for South African citizens.
- R700 for foreign citizens.
- Log in to student self-service with your person or student number and date of birth YYMMDD.
- Use only your person or student number as the payment reference.
- Pay before the relevant closing date.

Upload your documents
Upload at the time of application or via student self-service → Documents and Communications → Manage Documents.
- Current Matrics: upload final Grade 11 results. No hardcopy is required.
- Already Matriculated: upload certified copies of all matric certificates or foreign school-leaving certificates.
- Other tertiary studies: upload a certified official academic record for all tertiary registrations, including a statement or certificate of good conduct stamped by the registrar. Interim self-service results may be used for initial assessment.
- Previously excluded Wits students: upload your ADM Motivation via self-service.
Extra steps for some degrees
- Certain degrees require extra selection tasks such as a portfolio, essay, audition, or National Benchmark Test. Check the programme page and the NBT guidance.

Step 3. Acknowledgement of application
Wits will send an acknowledgement email confirming receipt of your application.
- The acknowledgement includes your person number which becomes your student number, and the contact details of your Admissions Consultant.
- All correspondence is stored in student self-service. Check Communication History regularly.
- Keep your contact details up to date in self-service.
- To view Application Status: Main Menu → Self Service → Student Centre → Admissions → View Academic Application Status.
Step 4. Track your status and manage offers in student self-service
Student self-service is your secure portal for everything related to your application. Your application is incomplete until all required documents are received.
- Check Manage Documents often and upload any missing items.
- Provisional offers may be made to current Matric applicants based on self-reported Grade 11 final results.
- Firm offers can be confirmed only after final Matric results are received.
- Each degree choice is treated as a separate application. The order of choices does not affect consideration.
Accepting an offer
- Accept a firm offer in self-service and complete the Student Contract to register when registration opens.
- A first fee payment is required. If you cannot make this payment or you are awaiting NSFAS feedback, you may postpone the first fee payment following the official guide.
- Places are limited. You may accept one offer only and you must accept and register before the cut-off date stated in your offer letter or SMS.
- Registration and orientation details will be available on the Wits website under Registration Steps.
- International students must follow the Information for International Students for 2026.
If you are waitlisted
- Review the Waitlist Process. Continue to check your status and keep your documents current.
Changing your study choice
- Do not submit a new application.
- If applications are still open for your new selection, amend your choices in student self-service. Follow Amendment of Study Choices via the Self-Service Portal.

Admission to Wits requires strong academic results. Initial assessment is based on self-reported Grade 11 final results. Final decisions are based on your official Matric results and on programme-specific selection criteria where applicable.
