Three main contributing factors that led to Human Trafficking

On this page, we’ll discuss three main contributing factors that led to Human Trafficking in South African Context: Human Trafficking is the recruitment, transportation, transfer, harbouring or receipt of people through force, fraud or deception, with the aim of exploiting them for profit. Men, women and children of all ages and from all backgrounds can become victims of this crime, which occurs in every region of the world. The traffickers often use violence or fraudulent employment agencies and fake promises of education and job opportunities to trick and coerce their victims.

Three main contributing factors that led to Human Trafficking

1. Poverty: Poverty comes mainly from unemployment. People who do not have sufficient money to fulfil their basic daily needs are mostly in a vulnerable position and therefore fall prey to the traffickers.

2. Lack of experience or knowledge about certain life essentials – Not all teenagers are aware of the harsh realities and thereby can fall prey to the lucrative job offers given by the traffickers.

3. Political unrest: war and political unrest can lead influence people to seek better places to leave, therefore can easily fall prey to possible better leaving opportunities presented by human traffickers
