Computer Applications Technology is defined as the study of the integrated components of a computer system, hardware and software, and the practical techniques for their efficient use in solving everyday problems using end-user applications. Its main content areas are solution development, systems technologies, network technologies, internet technologies, information management and social implications of ICT.
The document runs to 62 pages and is organised into four sections. Section 1 introduces the CAPS framework in general, Section 2 introduces Computer Applications Technology, its topic areas and specific aims, Section 3 gives the overview of topics per term and the annual teaching plan for each grade, and Section 4 covers assessment in the subject.
Learners are expected to use end-user software applications proficiently to produce solutions to problems, understand the concepts and technologies of ICT including networks and the internet, and find, process and present authentic information to draw conclusions and make decisions. The subject also develops awareness of the legal, ethical, environmental, social, security and health issues related to responsible ICT use.
