On this page, we assist students on one of the questions from the 2025 Grade 11 Life Orientation Source-based Task Term 1 Gauteng. Here is the question:
Discuss two possible reasons why Thabo might be struggling with procrastination despite having a plan for his goals.
Reference to Norma’s case study (from textbook) on procrastination:

The most two possible reasons on why Thabo might be struggling with procrastination despite having a plan for his goals, can be linked to poor self-discipline and getting distracted by unnecessary tasks, as discussed below:
1. Poor Self-Discipline
- Thabo may struggle to stick to his study plan, even though he knows what he needs to do.
- Like Norman in the case study, he might convince himself that he has more time and keep delaying important tasks.
- He may lack the habit of starting immediately and instead push studying to later, leading to last-minute stress.
- Without self-discipline, Thabo could easily get distracted by other activities instead of focusing on his Mathematics revision.
2. Getting Distracted by Unnecessary Tasks
- Thabo might focus on less important activities instead of studying, just like Norman, who tidied his desk and bought stationery instead of starting his work.
- He could waste time on things that feel productive, such as rearranging his study notes or watching coding tutorials, instead of actually solving Maths problems.
- He might convince himself that small tasks must be done first, delaying his study sessions unnecessarily.
- Like Norman, he could spend too much time on distractions, such as messaging friends or watching TV, leading to wasted study time.
To overcome procrastination, Thabo needs to stay focused, follow his schedule, and stop making excuses for delaying his studies.
