Mathematics is defined as a language that uses symbols and notations to describe numerical, geometric and graphical relationships. The document defines the ten FET content areas: Functions; Number Patterns, Sequences and Series; Finance, Growth and Decay; Algebra; Differential Calculus; Probability; Euclidean Geometry and Measurement; Analytical Geometry; Trigonometry; and Statistics, along with their weighting across Papers 1 and 2.
The document runs to 62 pages across four sections: Section 1 covers background, overview, general curriculum aims and time allocation; Section 2 defines Mathematics, its specific aims and skills, the focus and weighting of content areas; Section 3 (the bulk of the document) provides an overview of topics and term-by-term content clarification for Grade 10 (pages 21-30), Grade 11 (pages 30-40) and Grade 12 (pages 40-51); and Section 4 covers assessment, including the programme of assessment, recording and reporting.
