This is the Xitsonga Home Language CAPS Document (Curriculum and Assessment Policy Statement) for the Further Education and Training (FET) Phase, Grades 10-12, issued by the South African Department of Basic Education. The document defines Xitsonga Home Language around four interrelated language skill areas: Listening and Speaking, Reading and Viewing, Writing and Presenting, and Language Structures and Conventions. These skills are taught in an integrated way so that learners develop competence in listening, speaking, reading, viewing, writing and presenting texts, underpinned by a sound knowledge of grammar and language conventions.

Running to 114 pages, the document follows the standard CAPS layout used across all official South African languages: Section 1 introduces the CAPS policy and time allocation per phase, Section 2 introduces languages in general and the specific aims and overview of the Xitsonga Home Language curriculum, Section 3 sets out the content and teaching plans for the four language skill areas (Listening and Speaking, Reading and Viewing, Writing and Presenting, and Language Structures and Conventions) together with term-by-term teaching plans for Grades 10, 11 and 12, and Section 4 covers assessment in Xitsonga Home Language, including programme of assessment, recording and reporting, and moderation. The specific aims of Xitsonga Home Language are to enable learners to use the language for communication in a wide range of situations, to think and reason and to express their thoughts and feelings clearly, and to use language for learning across the curriculum. The subject also aims to help learners use their home language creatively and imaginatively, and to understand and appreciate the aesthetic, cultural and emotional value of language and literature.
