Difference Between Part-Time Jobs and Informal Jobs

In order to properly differentiate between part-time and invormatl jobs, you need to read Life Orientation Grade 12 Chapter 5: careers and career choices, under reasons fo and impact of unemployment.

Here is the difference:

Informal jobs are the jobs where you work for yourself, while formal jobs are those where you work for an employer and have a job contract.

Part-Time Jobs:

  • Work for a short time or only part of the day or week.
  • Helps you gain experience and build your CV.
  • Allows you to earn an income while working in different jobs.
  • Example: Directing spectators at soccer matches on certain days.

Informal Jobs:

  • Short-term work that is not officially registered.
  • Provides income but does not always offer recognised experience.
  • Offers flexible hours, making it easier to balance family responsibilities.
  • Examples: Washing cars, gardening, selling newspapers, or selling fruit and sweets at taxi ranks or schools.
