This is a Grade 10 English Home Language School Based Assessment (SBA Task 4) for an oral prepared speech, worth 20 marks and scheduled for 11 May 2026. Learners choose one of ten given topics, prepare and research a speech of about three minutes, and present it without reading directly from a script. Topics range from the disappearance of flight MH370 and the lost city of Atlantis to South African pride, the impact of technology and social media, and whether introverts make better entrepreneurs.

This task focuses on speech preparation and delivery, including researching a topic, acknowledging sources used, presenting without reading from a script, and being assessed against a marking rubric.
The task consists of four pages. Page one gives the task details, including the time allowed and duration. Page two lists the instructions and the ten speech topics to choose from. Page three and four contain the assessment and moderation mark sheet, recording the learner’s marks out of 20 and space for teacher and moderator sign off.
By completing this task, learners should be able to research a topic independently, acknowledge their sources, prepare an original three minute speech in their own words, and deliver it confidently without reading directly from a script.
