This is the History Grade 12 Paper 1 national May/June examination, worth 150 marks and to be completed in 3 hours. Learners answer three questions, at least one source-based and at least one essay, choosing from the Cold War origins, Independent Africa with a case study on Angola, and civil society protests including the US Civil Rights Movement, or essay topics on Vietnam, the Congo, and the Black Power Movement. Question 1 covers how the North Atlantic Treaty and the Warsaw Pact intensified the Cold War, including the veto, the Cominform, and a political cartoon involving Dean Acheson, Ernest Bevin and Robert Schuman.
