This is the isiXhosa Second Additional Language CAPS Document (Curriculum and Assessment Policy Statement) for the Foundation Phase, Grades 1-3, issued by the South African Department of Basic Education. It sets out what must be taught, learnt and assessed in isiXhosa Second Additional Language across Grades 1, 2 and 3, and is relevant for the 2026 and 2027 school years. It focuses on the development of listening, speaking, reading, viewing, writing and language structure and use skills for learners acquiring isiXhosa as a Second Additional Language, taught for one hour per week in the Foundation Phase.
